
German leaders are finally taking a stance against the far-right, but only when it suits them
Over the weekend, hundreds of thousands of Germans took to the streets to protest against the far-right AfD party, whose recently uncovered "remigration" plans shocked the nation. Even Chancellor Olaf Scholz attended the demonstration in Potsdam, claiming that the "democratic parties must stand together" against right-wing extremism. But the German "traffic light" government has been normalising the AfD for years, entrenching and accepting the party into the political landscape.
